Samsung Droid Charge Impresses as Verizon's Latest 4G LTE Android Handset

Samsung's Droid Charge, which Verizon Wireless was supposed to roll out to retailers April 28 but pushed back, is a delightful Android 2.2-based smartphone embodied in gray plastic. Though pricey at $299.99 with a two-year contract and no customary $100 rebate, the 1GHz chip-powered Droid Charge is a worthy rival to the HTC Thunderbolt as Verizon's second 4G LTE (Long-Term Evolution) smartphone. The device packs a lot of power for its size and measures up favorably against the ThunderBolt. While eWEEK had to travel to New York City to test the ThunderBolt's 4G data access in March, we were able to enjoy 4G speeds just fine from the Droid Charge even though Connecticut is supposedly not yet covered in Verizon's current 4G footprint of 45 markets. We expect Verizon is testing 4G network expansion.
