News Analysis: After its Aug. 6 IPO filing, Skype has a couple of months to decide whether to go ahead with a public offering or to opt for an eBay part deux by falling into the arms of another large acquirer. Right now, the most likely buyer is Cisco Systems. It's not clear whether Cisco will end up opting to pony up billions of dollars to purchase Skype, but few technology companies would be better suited to take Skype to the next level. Skype could be a natural extension to many existing products within the Cisco portfolio and could be a vital cog to help deliver VOIP (voice over IP), instant messaging chats and multiparty video calling to even more places and more devices. eWEEK Labs combed through the networking giant's array of products and services aimed toward the home, the office and the data center to identify possible points of synergy where Cisco could better deliver these services to consumers and enterprise employees alike.
